The weapon used in the murder of rap icon Tupac Shakur has gone missing for the first time since it was discovered in a backyard in Compton. Police shot the man responsible for one of the most notorious murders in US history on Thursday night in Compton, California.
On November 29, 1977, police found the body of Tupac Shakur, a business school student who lived with his mother in a house at 703 E. Colorado Street in Glendale, where he was murdered. The strangler begged an undercover police officer to handcuff him and take him to his home in Compton. On November 26, 1978, the naked bodies of the women were discovered in the backyard of a home in the 300 block of South Compton Boulevard.
Sheriff's Detective Rickey Ross was arrested and charged with the murders after he was found in a vehicle with a rusty, rusted, black and white Dodge Charger in the trunk. He was charged with murder after the LAPD linked his weapon to a bullet in each murder.
That same year, the LAPD secretly formed the 800-member task force, which consisted of six investigators and was overseen by the Robbery-Homicide Squad. More detectives were added to the so-called Southside Slayer Task Force and the case was still under investigation in 1986.
In March 1986, Prescod pressured the Los Angeles City Council to increase its reward offer from $10,000 to $25,000, formalizing his activist group as a group calling itself the Black Coalition to fight serial killings. The LAPD accused him of being a woman, which he denied, but Sheriff Villanueva said he was an affidavit witness.
